The Pole in the Lake

There is a pole in a lake. One-half of the pole is in the ground, another one-third of it is covered by water, and 8 ft is out of the water. What is the total length of the pole in ft?

  1. Let xft be height of Pole.

    Then x/2-x/3=8
    => 3x-2x=8*6
    => x=48 ft

  2. 24 ft.
    x/2+x/2*1/3+8=x
    x=24

  3. total =x feet
    x/2 + x/3 +8 =x
    On solving,
    x=48 feet
