# Trigonometry Formula Memorization Trick

I learned this shortcut memory trick from my Maths teacher in school. Recently while interacting with a class X student, I realized they have to mug up all the trigonometric ratios. This can be frustrating and can create a phobia or dislike for an interesting subject like Trigonometry at the very onset.

To use this memory trick, you need to memorize this simple mnemonic –

*Some people have curly brown hair turned permanently black*

That’s all you need to memorize to register the trigonometrical ratios in your mind forever. So here you go,

**S**ome **P**eople **H**ave

S = P/H

Sin = Perpendicular / Hypotenuse

**C**urly **B**rown **H**air

C = B/H

Cos = Base/Hypotenuse

**T**urned **P**ermanently **B**lack

T = P/B

Tan = Perpendicular/Base

There are 3 more ratios: Cosec, Sec and Cot. For these, just remember that –

Cosec is the reciprocal of Sin; or Cosec = 1/Sin = H/P

Sec is the reciprocal of Cos; or Sec = 1/Cos = H/B

Cot is the reciprocal of Tan; or Cot= 1/Tan = B/P

In my next post I’ll write about a simple memory trick for memorizing the value of all major angles of different trigonometry ratios like sin30, cos45, tan60, etc.

Update on 4th September, 2011 – as promised above here’s the new post – http://www.quickermaths.com/memory-tricks-for-trigonometry/

THIS STANZA CURLY BROWN HAIR TURNED PERMANENTLY BLACK …….. IS TOO GOOD……

THANKS VINEET PATAWARI SIR

I LIKE IT…PLZ SHARE MORE LIKE THIS WHICH HELP US TO LOVE MATHS……SO USEFUL……..

Some people have=sin=p/h

Curly brown hair=cos=b/h

Till painted black=p/b

BUT SOME PEOPLE HAVE CURLY BROWN HAIR TURNED PERMANENTLY BLACK …….. IS ALSO TOO GOOD……

THANKS VINEET PATAWARI SIR

I LIKE IT…PLZ SHARE MORE LIKE THIS WHICH HELP US TO LOVE MATHS……SO USEFUL……..

i like this fourmula

I like ihis formula is very useful

I like it .

It’s really boring … Instead of this , you should learn the Formulae by heart & you’ll never forget ,, dude !

Its a very good method ! I had actually found it hard to remember the ratios .. But now …. I am sure I will never forget this trick!!!

Tarah – Good to know that this trick helped you!

HINDI trick to memorize formula

LAL/KKA

L/K = LAMB/KARN = sin

A/K = AADHAR / KARN = cos

L/A = LAMB/ AADHAR = tan

AKK/LAL

A/L = AADHAR/ LAMB = COT

K/A = KARN / AADHAR = SEC

K/L = KARN/ LAMB = COSEC

That was really helpful…….It helped me a lot during my exams…I liked it very much.It was easy to memorize……Thanks a lot for interesting mnemonic……

Need some more interesting mnemonics. Can you give me?

hey thank you very very much….

nice one✔

smash”””

very useful thanks;;;;;;;

Very informative post indeed.. being enrolled in: http://www.wiziq.com/course/7618-full-preparation-for-class-10-mathematics

I was looking for such articles online to assist me and also your post helped me a lot.:)

it’s very gud trik ……

superb it help me very much

REally.?????

OAO/HHA=sin???,cos?,tan? ?=(Old )/(Hritik ) And/His Old/Amisha

Where O = opposite; A = adjacent and

H = hypoteneous

OR

(Pandit Badri Prasad Bole Har Har)/(Har Har Bole Prasad Badri Pandit)= PBPBHH/HHBPBP

Is shortcut to learn trigonometric ratios where P = Perpendicular or opposite side

B = Base or adjacent side of triangle

And H = Hypotaneous of right angled traingle..

nice tricks i like it thankxxx………..

superb trick i liked it

Simple Formula to remember

1. LAL/KKA

Sin = L/K

Cos = A/K

Tan = L/A

2. KKA/LAL

Cot = A/L

Sec = K/A

Cosec = K/L

where:-

L=Lumb(Perpendicular)

K=Karna(Hypotenuse)

A=Adhar(Base)

very easy

really easy to remember

pl. post the rest tricks for sharing

thanks

yah its nice

sin(sona)=p(pandit)/h(har)

cos(chandi)=b(badri)/h(har)

tan(tole)=p(prasad)/b(bhole).

learn like in sequence:-say pandit badri prasad har har bhole sona chandi tole

Thanks Kodawala for presenting a different mnemonic!

wow it is interesting
