Today I will confess to you something which you might get surprised at. During my early school days I was very scared of mathematics as a subject. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I might be delivering seminars on quicker math techniques or will be teaching students of competitive examinations like CAT, GMAT, etc or will be writing a blog on fast calculation tricks.

**Why Mathematics was so important?**

Mathematics was the only subject where the possibility of scoring 100% marks was there and a few of my classmates used to score 100% almost every time. In examinations, there was always a need to maintain proper balance between speed and accuracy. When I tried to finish the paper in time, I used to end up making silly mistakes and when I tried to be very cautious, I lost out on speed.

**Disappointments**

Competing with the toppers of my class then was like David (without an iota of his wit) trying to fight Goliath. There was always a frustration about the way math was taught in classrooms. Not everybody is god gifted in doing calculations and theoretical school education was not sufficient enough. It was not teaching me the simple and right ways to learn.

**How I overcame the problem?**

I struggled and started spending more than 50% of my study time on mathematics alone. As they say ‘where there is a will there is a way.’ And I found my solution one day while browsing through some books in my school library. That solution was Vedic Maths. It was not simple to grasp the mammoth expansion of Vedic Maths. Simply written resources were difficult to find and usage of internet was very limited. It was all self teaching and self understanding at that time.

**Delight**

Things have changed now. Whatever age, whatever ability in math you possess there is a solution which can work for you.

Recently I had a detailed meeting with Gaurav Tekriwal, the President of The Vedic Math Forum India. I was enthralled by his deep passion for Vedic Maths and other fast calculation techniques. According to Gaurav – “The scope of the area which Vedic Mathematics covers is much larger than the other systems. Through Vedic Math you can do calculations in Arithmetic, Algebra and even Trigonometry for that matter and simplify and speed up calculations. The results are for you to see and people love us across the globe for adding value to them and their children.”

**DVDs by Gaurav Tekriwal**

There is a set of 8 DVDs which is authored by Gaurav Tekriwal which contains examples presented in detail and the methods explained beautifully. This DVD set is sought after in the academic circuit and has been made after the author’s long experience of teaching over 600,000 students in the subject.

After going through this DVD tutorial a very apt quote by Albert Einstein flashed upon my mind – “**Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school”**

i brought a book of dhaval bhatia named as vedic math made easy. have you seen it . tell me your views and i also have mtyra quicker maths . but that book is best for banking exams. suggest some quicker math books for cat,xat etc at reasonable price as i cannot afford high price books

The book by Dhaval Bhatia is nice. It is meant for beginners in Vedic Maths. However, might have limited utility in terms of CAT prep. Have a look at my suggested list of books for CAT – http://www.quickermaths.com/suggested-books-for-cat/
